Sitting on the western edge of the sleepy village of Hedley on the Hill, we has a spectacular setting overlooking the lovely Tyne Valley, with a westerly position that's splendid for watching the sunset. Grassy pitches, each with their own firepit, are on a level field with masses of space for games and activities, so kids can let off steam safely (perhaps flying one of the kites available to borrow on site) – and it's dog-friendly too, so your pooch can join you on your break.

  • Peaceful hilltop campsite with spectacular views of the Tyne Valley

  • A 20-minute drive to Derwent Reservoir; Newcastle-upon-Tyne 30 minutes

  • Dark sky site for stargazing; gastropub five minutes' walk away

This is a great spot for walkers, with footpaths starting right from the field, where you might get to see buzzards and rare red kites riding the thermals overhead. Cyclists, you can test yourselves on the demanding National Hill-Climb Championships course that ran up into the village from Stocksfield in 2017.

What’s provided? A portaloo with sink, a mains water tap (not for drinking) and thoughtful extras like complimentary drinking water, tea, coffee and raw (unpasteurised) milk fresh from the dairy herd in the cattle trailer, along with maps of local walks. All pitches have a firepit, and logs are available to buy on site.

And how about some alfresco eats? The folk at Valley View have teamed up with their local butcher to give our guests the option to pre-order campers’ breakfast and/or barbecue packs, all delivered right to your pitch. (Just let them know if you'd like one at least 48 hours before your stay so they can place your order.)

Not up for cooking? An award-winning gastropub is less than a five-minute walk away in the village, with a fire kitchen and takeaway service. Just down the hill in Stocksfield there are regular weekend food trucks at the cricket club and local pub. Stocksfield, Mickley and Prudhoe (10 minutes’ drive) have handy local stores where you can pick up goodies to enjoy around the firepit.
